Colleagues,

Many of you will have seen and read numerous reports about the ConDem Government's Spending Cuts. It emphasises that these cuts will affect Public Services and workers. Did you realise that we as Quarriers employees are part of Public Services? As such we could well be under as much attack as our colleagues in the Councils or NHS.

We as a branch are developing a strategy to fight back. How can we do this? The best way is to try and get as many Union members as possible in every workplace. The stronger we are as a Union, the stronger we can fight.

Quarriers are already looking at starting a Campaign to show how cuts will affect the Service Users, UNISON has also got a Cuts campaign called "Million voices", The STUC has a campaign called "There is a better way". We as a branch are part of all these campaigns but we need to know what is happening in your area before it starts hitting our jobs.

Therefore you can do the following:

1.              Ask your colleagues if they are in UNISON.

2.              If they are not encourage them to join by going to our website 

                 www.quarriersunison.org.uk and click on the Join Now section.

3.              You can also become a Workplace Contact so we can build a

                 network of contacts throughout Quarriers.

4.              You could become a Steward, helping represent you and your

                 colleagues in the workplace and also being part of a very active

                 Union. It's not hard.
